In recent years, millions of women and girls have been trafficked across borders and inside countries. According to a UNDP research, 300,000 to 450,000 persons are trafficked within Asia each year, with more than half taking place in South Asia. Women and children, particularly girls, are trafficked inside nations, across borders, and across regions and continents outside South Asia. Over the last decade, the rising problem of human trafficking in South Asia has been acknowledged and has become a significant concern.
