Requesting Enquiries and Transfers of Missing Person Enquiries: Advice to Police Forces

Difficulties can arise when a missing person is reported in one force area and the responsible force requests another force to conduct enquiries on their behalf. Risks are not always effectively communicated by the requesting force, and enquiries are not always conducted diligently by the other force.

The transfer of missing person investigations from one force to another can also be difficult with the receiving force sometimes reticent to accept responsibility.
