There are multifarious reasons why people go missing and the risks that they are exposed to whilst absent differ considerably. Certain individuals may have been a victim of a serious crime or suffered serious harm, whilst others may have just needed time to themselves and have been perfectly safe whilst missing. It is therefore important to understand why a person went missing and discover what they experienced whilst absent. The key mechanisms by which this is achieved is through the Police Prevention Interview and the Independent Return Interview.
